Ezri Konsa is an English centre-back who plays for Aston Villa and the England national team. A composed, quick and tactically intelligent defender, he is known for his one-on-one defending, positional discipline and ability to build possession cleanly from the back.
Konsa has developed into one of Aston Villa’s most important defensive players since joining from Brentford in 2019. Under Unai Emery, he has operated both as a central defender and right-back, while becoming a senior leader and vice-captain within the squad.
His career began at Charlton Athletic before a move to Brentford accelerated his development. Aston Villa brought him to the Premier League in 2019, where his consistency eventually earned him senior England recognition.
Konsa’s profile increased further through his performances for England, including at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In August 2026, Arsenal reached an agreement with Aston Villa for his transfer, although the move remained subject to final completion at the time of publication.

Konsa spent only one season at Brentford before Aston Villa reunited him with former Brentford manager Dean Smith. His development at Villa turned him from a promising Championship defender into an established Premier League and England international.
His potential move to Arsenal represents another significant step in his career and reflects his increased profile following several consistent Premier League seasons and strong international performances.
Konsa is primarily a centre-back but is also comfortable operating as a right-back or the right-sided defender in a back three. His versatility has been particularly valuable for both Aston Villa and England.
One of his strongest qualities is his one-on-one defending. Konsa rarely commits himself unnecessarily and instead uses his positioning, balance and acceleration to stay with attackers before choosing the correct moment to challenge.
He is also composed in possession. Konsa can receive the ball under pressure, carry it forward and play through opposition pressing structures rather than relying on direct clearances.
His recovery speed allows him to defend effectively in a relatively high defensive line. When opponents break behind the midfield, he can cover space quickly and compete against fast forwards.
Konsa is particularly strong when defending wide areas for a centre-back. His experience at right-back means he is comfortable being isolated against wingers and defending situations close to the touchline.
He relies more on anticipation, timing and mobility than aggressive physical defending. This gives him a profile well suited to teams that dominate possession and require defenders to protect large spaces behind them.
