About

Rodrigo Mora is a Portuguese attacking midfielder who plays for AS Roma and represents Portugal at U21 level. A technically gifted and highly creative player, he is known for his close control, movement between the lines, finishing ability and confidence in one-on-one situations.

Mora developed through FC Porto’s academy after joining the club as a child. His rise was unusually fast: he became the youngest player ever to feature and score in Portugal’s second tier before establishing himself in Porto’s senior team.

His major breakthrough came during the 2024/25 season, when he became one of the most productive young attacking midfielders in Portuguese football. He subsequently helped Porto win the Portuguese league in 2025/26 before moving to Roma in August 2026.

At international level, Mora has been a standout performer for Portugal U21 and has also received senior national-team call-ups. He remains one of the highest-rated Portuguese players of his generation.

Mora’s transfer to Roma followed several months of interest from major European clubs.

Porto had protected the player with a long-term contract and a €70m release clause, while Mora’s strong early senior performances significantly increased his market value.

Roma eventually secured him in August 2026 in a deal structured around an initial payment of approximately €25m, with Porto retaining significant upside from any future transfer.

Playing profile

Mora is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a number eight, second striker or from either side of the attack.

His biggest strength is his technical quality in tight spaces. Mora has excellent close control and can receive between opposition midfield and defence before turning quickly towards goal.

He is particularly dangerous when operating around the edge of the penalty area. Mora combines quick feet with strong shooting technique and is comfortable finishing with relatively little preparation.

Unlike many small attacking midfielders, he also has a strong sense of timing when arriving inside the box. This contributed heavily to his goalscoring numbers during his breakthrough season at Porto.

His dribbling is direct rather than purely decorative. Mora uses quick changes of direction and acceleration to create space for a shot or final pass.

He is also capable of dropping deeper to help progress possession, making him more versatile than a traditional number ten.

At Roma, his ability to operate in central and half-space positions makes him well suited to a system that asks attacking midfielders to combine closely with forwards and wing-backs.
