About

Matías Fernández-Pardo is a Belgian forward who plays for LOSC Lille and the Belgium national team. Born in Brussels to a Spanish father and Italian mother, he is a powerful and versatile attacker capable of operating as a centre-forward, left winger or right winger.

Fernández-Pardo returned to Lille from Gent in August 2024 after previously spending six years within the French club’s academy. His combination of size, acceleration, technical quality and direct attacking ability has helped him develop into one of the most valuable young forwards in Ligue 1.

His senior breakthrough originally came with Gent, where an outstanding finish to the 2023/24 season significantly raised his profile. Lille subsequently brought him back to France, and increased responsibility during the following two seasons established him as a regular starter and important attacking player.

At international level, Fernández-Pardo represented Belgium throughout the youth categories before progressing into the senior national team in 2026. He was selected for Belgium’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and has since become one of the country’s most interesting young attacking options.

Fernández-Pardo’s return to Lille represented an unusual homecoming. The club had already worked with him during his formative academy years before he moved back to Belgium to continue his development with Gent.

His performances in Belgium eventually convinced Lille to invest more than €10m to bring him back. The transfer quickly proved valuable as his playing time, productivity and market valuation increased significantly.

By the summer of 2026, Lille were reportedly demanding a considerably higher fee amid strong interest from clubs in England and Germany.

Playing profile

Fernández-Pardo is an unusually versatile forward who can operate as a centre-forward, left winger, right winger or second striker. His combination of size and mobility allows him to perform both centrally and from wider positions.

One of his defining qualities is his ability to carry the ball directly towards defenders. He combines long strides with good close control and can accelerate quickly once he identifies space ahead of him.

Despite his physical frame, Fernández-Pardo is technically comfortable in tight areas. He can receive between defenders, turn under pressure and combine through short passes before continuing his movement towards goal.

From wide positions, he frequently attacks diagonally towards the penalty area rather than remaining close to the touchline. This allows him to become an additional scoring threat and occupy spaces normally associated with a central striker.

He is also capable of operating as the highest forward. His physical strength allows him to compete with centre-backs, while his movement and acceleration make him dangerous when attacking space behind the defensive line.

His development at Lille has also included greater defensive intensity. Fernández-Pardo presses aggressively from the front and has the athletic profile required to repeatedly close defenders and recover into shape.
