Unique Sports Group client Fernández Pardo heads to Newcastle
Unique Sports Group client Matias Fernandez Pardo is set to join Newcastle United after the club reached an agreement with Lille.
Newcastle will pay a €60m fee plus add-ons for the 21-year-old Belgian forward, who has already said yes to the Magpies project. Fernández Pardo is expected to fly today as the transfer moves into the final formal stage.
For Newcastle, this is one of the biggest attacking signings of the summer and a decisive late-window move after weeks of work around Lille’s valuation.
Newcastle land their priority forward
Newcastle pushed hard because Fernández Pardo had become one of their main attacking targets before the transfer deadline.
The Magpies needed more speed, youth and final-third threat after a summer of major squad movement. Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona changed the wide-forward picture, while Nick Woltemade’s future has also been tied to Juventus interest.
Fernández Pardo gives Newcastle a flexible attacker who can play as a centre-forward, second striker or wide forward. He is tall, direct, technically clean and dangerous when attacking space. That makes him a strong fit for a Newcastle side that wants more vertical power in the front line.
Lille accept after strong resistance
Lille did not make this easy.
The French club had been reluctant to sell, especially after qualifying for the Champions League and losing Ayyoub Bouaddi to Manchester City earlier in the window. President Olivier Létang had publicly taken a firm stance, while Atlético Madrid, RB Leipzig and Arsenal were also linked during the summer.
But Newcastle kept increasing pressure. Earlier offers around €40m and €60m including bonuses were not enough, before the Magpies finally reached a structure Lille could accept.
The deal now gives Lille a huge profit on a player signed from Gent in 2024 for around €11.5m.
The numbers behind the deal
Fernández Pardo’s 2025/26 season explains the fee.
FBref lists him with 29 Ligue 1 appearances, 2,370 minutes, eight goals and five assists. In Europe, he added one assist across 11 Europa League appearances. FootyStats credits him with 45 total appearances, eight goals and six assists across all competitions, including World Cup minutes with Belgium.
Opta Analyst lists his Lille career at 51 senior appearances, 12 goals and seven assists. That is strong production for a forward still only 21, especially in a side where he was often asked to carry attacking responsibility before reaching full maturity.
He is also a Belgium international, with five senior caps already, and remains under contract with Lille until 2029. Newcastle are paying for current output, but also for long-term upside.
Agency angle
This is another major Premier League move for Unique Sports Group.
Transfermarkt lists Fernández Pardo with USG, placing him inside one of the most influential UK-based agencies in the market. Unique Sports Group have built a strong reputation around Premier League access, elite young talent and high-value moves between England and Europe. Main agents are Will Salthouse and Gordon Stipic-Wipfler.
The agency’s roster includes major names such as Anthony Gordon, Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Brennan Johnson, Harvey Elliott and Maxence Lacroix. Fernández Pardo now becomes another young attacker moving into the Premier League through a major-fee deal.
