Matheus Cunha is a Brazilian forward who plays for Manchester United and the Brazil national team. A technically gifted and highly mobile attacker, he can operate as a centre-forward, second striker or from the left side of the attack.
Cunha developed in Brazil before moving to Europe with Swiss club Sion. He subsequently played in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin, continued his career with Atlético Madrid and then established himself as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous forwards at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Manchester United signed him in the summer of 2025 after activating his £62.5m release clause. Cunha scored 10 Premier League goals during his first season at Old Trafford and continued as one of United’s main attacking players in 2026/27.
At international level, Cunha has represented Brazil since 2021. He won Olympic gold with Brazil U23 and played an important role for the senior national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring three goals during the tournament.

Cunha’s career has included major moves across Switzerland, Germany, Spain and England.
His period at Wolves proved decisive. After initially arriving on loan, he developed into the club’s main attacking player and produced back-to-back double-digit Premier League scoring seasons.
Manchester United activated his £62.5m release clause in 2025, making Cunha one of the central pieces of the club’s attacking rebuild.
Cunha is primarily a centre-forward or second striker but is most effective when given freedom to move across the attacking line.
Rather than remaining permanently between the centre-backs, he frequently drops into midfield or drifts towards the left side before carrying possession forward.
His ball carrying is one of his strongest qualities. Cunha combines close control, acceleration and physical strength, allowing him to progress through pressure and create attacks without requiring a final pass from midfield.
He is also an excellent link player. Cunha can receive with his back to goal, turn away from opponents and combine with midfielders or wingers before attacking the penalty area.
His finishing improved significantly during his years at Wolves. He became more clinical around the box while retaining the ability to score from distance and create chances individually.
Cunha’s versatility allows him to play alongside a traditional number nine, lead the attack himself or operate as an advanced number ten.
