About

Gabriel Martinelli is a Brazilian left winger who plays for Arsenal FC and the Brazil national team. A direct and explosive attacker, he is known for his acceleration, aggressive movement behind defensive lines and ability to carry the ball at speed from wide positions.

Martinelli joined Arsenal from Brazilian club Ituano in 2019 and developed from a relatively unknown teenage prospect into an established Premier League and Brazil international. He became a central part of Mikel Arteta’s rebuilding project and produced his most prolific Premier League campaign during the 2022/23 season.

Primarily used from the left, Martinelli combines traditional winger qualities with the movement of a forward. He regularly attacks the space between full-back and centre-back and is particularly dangerous when Arsenal regain possession and transition quickly.

At international level, Martinelli progressed into Brazil’s senior setup after previously winning Olympic gold with the country’s U23 team. He represented Brazil at the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups.

As of the end of August 2026, Arsenal and Al-Hilal have reached an agreement in principle over Martinelli’s transfer to Saudi Arabia. The move has not yet been formally completed, meaning he remains officially an Arsenal player at the time of publication.

Martinelli’s move to Arsenal was one of the club’s most successful investments in young talent. Signed directly from Ituano for a relatively modest fee, he developed into a regular Premier League starter and Brazilian international.

His potential move to Al-Hilal represents a major financial return for Arsenal. The proposed deal would rank among the club’s biggest-ever player sales.

Playing profile

Martinelli is primarily a left winger but can also operate as a centre-forward or from the right side. His game is built around acceleration, direct running and aggressive movement towards goal.

His greatest strength is his ability to attack space. Martinelli regularly positions himself high and wide before making diagonal runs between the opposing right-back and centre-back.

He is particularly dangerous during transitions. When Arsenal regain possession, Martinelli immediately looks to exploit open space and can carry the ball significant distances at high speed.

Unlike a winger who primarily looks to create from outside the penalty area, Martinelli frequently attacks central scoring positions. His movement resembles that of a forward and allows him to arrive at the far post or attack cutbacks from the opposite side.

He is also an aggressive presser. Martinelli closes defenders with intensity, makes repeated recovery runs and contributes significantly to the defensive demands placed on Arsenal’s wide attackers.

His technical qualities include close control at speed, powerful right-footed finishing and the ability to create separation through rapid changes of pace.
