Robert Lewandowski is a Polish centre-forward who plays for Chicago Fire FC and captains the Poland national team. One of the most prolific strikers of his generation, he is known for his finishing, movement inside the penalty area, positional intelligence and ability to score consistently with either foot and in the air.
Lewandowski joined Chicago Fire in June 2026 after four seasons with FC Barcelona. His move to Major League Soccer followed an extraordinary European career with Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Barcelona, during which he won domestic league titles in Germany and Spain as well as the UEFA Champions League.
He arrived in Chicago as a Designated Player and one of the highest-profile signings in MLS history. Even in the final stage of his career, his goalscoring record, leadership and commercial profile make him a major figure for both the club and the league.
At international level, Lewandowski is Poland’s record goalscorer and one of the country’s most-capped players. He has represented Poland at multiple European Championships and FIFA World Cups and remains one of the most important players in the history of the national team.

Lewandowski’s career has been defined by exceptional value creation at every stage.
Borussia Dortmund signed him from Lech Poznań for less than €5m before developing him into one of Europe’s best centre-forwards. His free transfer to Bayern Munich in 2014 subsequently became one of the most successful Bosman signings in modern football.
Barcelona paid approximately €45m for him at the age of 33 and were rewarded with immediate goals, trophies and commercial impact.
He moved to Chicago Fire on a free transfer in 2026 after completing his Barcelona contract, signing a deal through June 2028.
Lewandowski is a traditional number nine with an exceptionally complete attacking skill set.
His greatest strength has always been his movement inside the penalty area. He constantly adjusts his position relative to defenders and creates separation through small movements rather than relying only on pace.
Lewandowski is an elite finisher with both feet. He can score first-time, from tight angles, from outside the box and through combinations in crowded central areas.
His aerial ability is another major weapon. His timing, strength and heading technique have produced a significant number of goals throughout his career.
Lewandowski is also an excellent link player. He can receive with his back to goal, protect possession and combine with attacking midfielders and wingers before moving into the box.
His technical level has allowed him to remain effective even as his physical explosiveness has declined. Rather than depending on speed, he relies heavily on anticipation, positioning and decision-making.
At Chicago Fire, his role extends beyond goals. He provides leadership, experience and a reference point for younger attacking players while remaining the focal point of the team’s forward line.
