About

Lennart Karl is a German attacking midfielder and winger who plays for Bayern Munich and the Germany national team. A left-footed creator with excellent close control, finishing ability and confidence in one-on-one situations, he has emerged as one of the leading talents of Germany’s 2008 generation.

Karl joined Bayern’s academy in 2022 after spells with Viktoria Aschaffenburg and Eintracht Frankfurt. His performances at U17 and U19 level accelerated his progression, and he made his senior Bayern debut at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup before becoming a permanent member of the first-team squad.

His breakthrough during the 2025/26 season included regular Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League minutes. Karl became Bayern’s youngest-ever Champions League goalscorer and developed into a genuine first-team attacking option while still only 17.

At international level, Karl represented Germany at U15, U16, U17 and U21 level before making his senior debut in March 2026 at the age of 18. He was subsequently selected for Germany’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad but withdrew before the tournament because of injury.

Karl joined Bayern at 14 and progressed rapidly through the club’s academy. His combination of technical quality and attacking productivity allowed him to move through age groups faster than most players of his generation.

His new contract signed shortly after his 18th birthday secured him until 2029 and reflected his development from academy prospect into a genuine Bayern first-team player.

Playing profile

Karl is primarily an attacking midfielder but is also highly effective from the right wing. As a left-footed player, he naturally looks to move inside from the right into shooting and creative positions.

His close control is one of his strongest qualities. Karl can receive in tight areas, manipulate the ball quickly and escape pressure through rapid changes of direction.

He is particularly dangerous around the penalty area. Unlike many young creative midfielders, Karl already offers a significant goalscoring threat and is comfortable shooting from both central and right-sided positions.

His dribbling allows him to beat defenders from a standing start, while his acceleration over short distances helps him create separation once he has moved past the initial challenge.

Karl also possesses strong attacking awareness. He identifies spaces between midfield and defence, combines quickly with teammates and regularly moves into positions from which he can either create or finish chances.

His combination of creativity, finishing and positional flexibility gives him the profile of a modern attacking midfielder who can eventually operate as a number ten, inverted winger or advanced number eight.
