About

Lautaro Martínez is an Argentine centre-forward who plays for Inter Milan and the Argentina national team. Inter’s captain and one of the leading strikers in European football, he is known for his aggressive movement, finishing, pressing intensity and ability to combine with another forward.

Lautaro joined Inter from Racing Club in 2018 and gradually developed into one of the central figures of the Nerazzurri project. He has become one of the highest-scoring players in the club’s history and has captained Inter since the 2023/24 season.

His career in Milan has included multiple Serie A titles, Coppa Italia trophies and Supercoppa Italiana victories, as well as deep UEFA Champions League runs. By August 2026, he had reached 175 goals in 376 appearances for Inter.

At international level, Lautaro has been a major part of Argentina’s most successful modern generation. He won the 2021 and 2024 Copa América, the 2022 Finalissima and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, while also remaining part of Argentina’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Inter signed Lautaro from Racing after he had emerged as one of the most highly rated young forwards in South American football.

His development in Italy has been exceptional. Rather than using Inter simply as a stepping stone, Lautaro became increasingly central to the club’s sporting project and eventually inherited the captaincy.

The 2024 contract renewal secured his long-term future until 2029 and reflected his status as both Inter’s attacking leader and one of the club’s most valuable assets.

Playing profile

Lautaro is primarily a centre-forward but is particularly effective when operating alongside another striker.

His movement is one of his greatest strengths. He constantly changes position across the front line, drops into deeper areas to combine and then accelerates into the penalty area.

He is a highly aggressive finisher. Lautaro attacks crosses and cutbacks quickly and is comfortable finishing first-time with either foot.

Despite not being an exceptionally tall striker, he is very strong aerially. His timing, aggression and leap allow him to compete effectively with larger centre-backs.

Lautaro also contributes heavily without possession. He presses defenders aggressively and is willing to make repeated defensive runs, making him well suited to teams that defend from the front.

His combination play is another important part of his game. He can receive with his back to goal, protect possession and connect midfield runners before immediately attacking space again.

As Inter captain, his influence now extends beyond his individual attacking output. His intensity and leadership set the tone for the team both with and without the ball.
