About

Jérémy Doku is a Belgian winger who plays for Manchester City and the Belgium national team. Primarily deployed from the left, he is known for his explosive acceleration, elite one-on-one dribbling and ability to destabilise defensive structures through direct attacking actions.

Doku developed through Anderlecht’s academy before establishing himself in the Belgian first team as a teenager. His performances earned him a move to Rennes in 2020, where he continued his development in Ligue 1 and European competition.

Manchester City signed him in August 2023 for approximately €60m. He quickly became an important attacking option and won the Premier League during his first season in England. In August 2026, City rewarded him with a new long-term contract until 2031.

At international level, Doku has been a senior Belgium international since 2020 and has represented his country at major tournaments including UEFA Euro 2020, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2024 and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Doku’s move from Anderlecht to Rennes was the first major step in his senior career and gave him consistent experience in one of Europe’s strongest development leagues.

Manchester City then made a major investment in 2023 after identifying his one-on-one ability as a quality capable of adding a different dimension to the squad.

His renewed Manchester City contract in 2026 reflected his development into an established Premier League attacker and secured his future through the peak years of his career.

Playing profile

Doku is primarily a left winger but can also operate from the right side.

His defining quality is his one-on-one dribbling. He is extremely aggressive when isolated against defenders and regularly attempts to beat opponents rather than recycling possession.

His acceleration over the first few metres is exceptional. Doku can move from a standing position into full attacking speed almost instantly, allowing him to exploit even very small spaces.

He is also highly effective changing direction at speed. His low centre of gravity, balance and rapid footwork make him particularly difficult to defend in wide areas.

Doku usually looks to attack the penalty area after beating his defender. He can drive towards goal, create cutbacks or deliver low passes across the six-yard area.

His creative output has improved significantly at Manchester City. While his early career was defined primarily by dribbling, he has become increasingly effective at turning successful take-ons into clear chances.

In possession-heavy teams, Doku offers a valuable element of unpredictability. He can create advantages without requiring an overload or combination sequence, simply by eliminating the first defender himself.
