Erling Haaland is a Norwegian centre-forward who plays for Manchester City and the Norway national team. Considered one of the leading strikers of his generation, he combines exceptional speed and physical strength with intelligent movement and elite finishing inside the penalty area.
Haaland has been the focal point of Manchester City’s attack since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. He made an immediate impact in England, breaking the Premier League record for most goals in a single season and helping City win the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League treble in his first campaign.
His senior career began with Bryne before he continued his development at Molde. Prolific spells with Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund established him among Europe’s most valuable and sought-after players.
Haaland is also the central figure of the Norway national team and the country’s all-time leading goalscorer. He represented Norway at multiple youth levels before making his senior international debut in 2019. He scored seven goals during Norway’s run to the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Haaland operates primarily as a central striker and is most effective as the highest attacker in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. He specialises in attacking spaces behind the defensive line and making explosive runs between centre-backs.
His movement inside the penalty area is one of his strongest qualities. He regularly delays his runs before accelerating towards the goal, allowing him to lose his marker and meet crosses or cutbacks in high-value scoring positions.
Despite his height and physical power, Haaland possesses exceptional acceleration over short and medium distances. This makes him dangerous both against deep defensive blocks and during fast transitions.
He is predominantly left-footed but can finish with either foot and is a significant aerial threat. Haaland does not need to be heavily involved in possession to influence a match and can produce decisive moments from a limited number of touches.
