About

Anthony Gordon is an English winger who plays for FC Barcelona and the England national team. Primarily deployed from the left, he is known for his pace, direct running, pressing intensity and ability to attack defenders aggressively in one-on-one situations.

Gordon developed through Everton’s academy after earlier spending time with Liverpool. He established himself in the Premier League at Everton before joining Newcastle United in January 2023, where his career accelerated significantly.

His performances at Newcastle developed him into one of England’s most productive wide attackers. He helped the club win the League Cup in 2025, produced a strong UEFA Champions League campaign and subsequently earned a major move to Barcelona in the summer of 2026.

At international level, Gordon was named Player of the Tournament when England won the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He made his senior debut in 2024 and later became an important part of England’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Gordon’s move to Newcastle in January 2023 proved to be the decisive step in his development from promising Premier League winger into an established England international.

His productivity increased substantially during his time at St James’ Park. He became a key player in Newcastle’s pressing system while also adding significantly more goals and assists to his game.

Barcelona moved for him after an outstanding 2025/26 season that included 17 goals across all competitions and particularly impressive Champions League performances.

The Catalan club agreed a five-year contract in May 2026, with the transfer officially taking effect on 1 July.

Playing profile

Gordon is primarily a left winger but can also operate from the right or as a centre-forward.

His defining characteristic is his directness. Gordon receives possession with the intention of advancing quickly and regularly attacks defenders rather than slowing the game down.

His acceleration makes him particularly dangerous when space opens behind the defensive line. He times diagonal runs effectively and can exploit gaps between full-backs and centre-backs.

Gordon is also an aggressive presser. His work rate allows him to close defenders quickly and makes him particularly suited to teams that want to regain possession high up the pitch.

His finishing has improved significantly since his Everton years. Gordon is now comfortable attacking central positions and has become much more reliable when arriving inside the penalty area.

At Barcelona, his role has become more varied. He can maintain width, attack the inside-left channel or move centrally while teammates occupy the touchline.

His combination of pace, pressing, improving creativity and consistent final-third production makes him one of England’s most complete wide forwards.
