Alexander Isak is a Swedish centre-forward who plays for Liverpool FC and the Sweden national team. A technically refined striker with exceptional mobility, he is known for his composed finishing, intelligent movement and ability to carry the ball at speed.
Isak joined Liverpool from Newcastle United in September 2025 for a British-record transfer fee. His first season at Anfield was disrupted by fitness problems, including a serious leg injury, but he returned before the end of the campaign and represented Sweden at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His senior career began with AIK in Sweden before moves to Borussia Dortmund, Willem II and Real Sociedad. A productive spell in Spain earned him a transfer to Newcastle, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading strikers.
At international level, Isak made his senior Sweden debut in 2017 and became the youngest goalscorer in the history of the men’s national team. He remains a central part of Sweden’s attack alongside Viktor Gyökeres.

Isak’s move to Newcastle made him the most expensive signing in the club’s history. He developed into a prolific Premier League striker and played a decisive role in Newcastle’s return to the Champions League and victory in the 2025 EFL Cup.
Liverpool completed his signing on the final day of the 2025 summer transfer window. The deal broke the British transfer record and made Isak one of the most expensive footballers in history.
Isak is primarily a centre-forward but can also operate from the left side or alongside another striker. His technical quality and mobility allow him to contribute both as a penalty-area goalscorer and during deeper phases of attacking play.
His movement is one of his defining qualities. Isak regularly drifts away from central defenders before accelerating into the space behind them. He can also move towards the left channel, receive possession and attack opponents directly.
Despite his height, he plays with the balance and close control of a smaller forward. He is capable of carrying the ball at speed, changing direction quickly and moving through narrow spaces without losing possession.
Isak is a composed finisher who can score with either foot. He regularly delays his shot until the goalkeeper commits and is particularly effective in one-on-one situations.
He can also combine with attacking midfielders and wingers. His ability to receive with his back to goal, turn under pressure and connect short passes gives him greater creative influence than a traditional penalty-box striker.
His combination of height, acceleration and technical quality makes him difficult to defend. When fully fit, he provides Liverpool with a mobile number nine capable of leading the press, attacking space and creating chances independently.
