Who is Augusto Matías Fernández?

Augusto Matías Fernández (born April 10, 1986) is an Argentine former midfielder turned football agent and the owner/CEO of AREA Sport Team. Across a 15-year playing career he represented River Plate, Saint-Étienne, Vélez Sarsfield, Celta de Vigo and Atlético Madrid, later moving to Beijing Renhe and Cádiz before retiring in 2021.

A 16-cap Argentina international, he was part of squads that finished runners-up at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and Copa América Centenario 2016. Fernández launched AREA Sport Team on October 25, 2021, building a boutique, multi-market operation based in Madrid, Buenos Aires and Mexico City, and partnering with Best Of You Sports to expand the group’s reach.
