LeaderS client Alejandro Garnacho is set to join Aston Villa after the club agreed a deal with Chelsea for a loan move including a conditional obligation to buy.
The Argentina international has already completed his medical and is now in Birmingham, with a four-year contract in place if the move becomes permanent. Chelsea’s own season review credited him with 43 appearances, 22 starts, 2,397 minutes, eight goals and four assists in 2025/26. Those numbers are not disastrous, but they were not enough to secure his place in Xabi Alonso’s rebuilt forward group.
The arrival of Rogers only increased the pressure. Chelsea now have another major attacking midfielder/wing-forward option, and Garnacho’s path to regular starts looked narrower. A move to Villa gives him the chance to play more consistently and rebuild momentum.
Emery gets another revival project
Unai Emery has built a strong reputation for improving players who arrive with questions around them. Garnacho now fits that category.
He is still only 22, already has Premier League experience, Champions League exposure and Argentina senior international status. His best football at Manchester United showed explosive one-v-one ability, confidence in transition and a willingness to attack the box from wide positions.
The challenge is consistency. Garnacho needs minutes, structure and trust. Villa can offer all three if Emery sees him as a key part of the post-Rogers attack.
