Juventus obligation to buy Lois Openda is now active – Stirr Associates client could still be moved on this summer

Juventus now locked into the Openda deal

Loïs Openda’s move to Juventus has now crossed the point of no return. The obligation to buy has been automatically activated, turning last summer’s loan into a permanent commitment. The structure of the agreement means Juventus are now tied into a package worth around €46m between the initial loan and permanent transfer, with salary coverage on top. It will be interesting how his agency Stirr Associates will handle this matter.

That is a major number for a player Juventus are still not fully convinced by. The sporting trigger had long looked very reachable, and there were already reports earlier in the year that the club were considering a summer exit route because Openda’s profile has not really clicked in the current setup.

Why Juventus could still look for an exit

This is what makes the story more interesting than a standard obligation clause being completed. Juventus are now committed financially, but that does not automatically mean they are committed strategically. The idea of a summer sale has been in the background for months, as Fabrizio Romano reported. Largely because Openda has struggled to establish himself as the right fit in attack.

The underlying numbers explain why. Openda has made 31 appearances and scored two goals across all competitions this season for Juventus. In Serie A, that return stands at one goal in 23 appearances. For a striker whose deal now lands in the €46m range before wages, that is not the output Juventus would have wanted.

Player profile

Openda, 26, is a Belgium international centre-forward who built his reputation as a high-tempo runner in behind rather than a classic penalty-box target. Before the Juventus move, he left RB Leipzig with 41 goals in 93 matches across all competitions, including a hugely productive first season in Germany when he scored 28 times in all competitions.

That background helps explain why Juventus were interested in the first place. Openda has pace, directness and proven scoring history at a high level. But what worked for him so well in Germany has not translated smoothly in Turin, and that mismatch now sits at the heart of the story.

The agency behind the move – Stirr Associates

Openda is represented by Stirr Associates, the Belgian boutique agency founded by Stijn Francis. The firm has built a strong reputation for close-management work and long-term player support, and Openda remains one of its standout clients.

So even though the obligation is now active, the story is not finished. Juventus have completed one expensive part of the process, but the next phase may now be about whether a new solution can be found for a striker who still has age, pedigree and market value on his side.
