Gonzalo García to Stuttgart: inside a €22m swing in Real Madrid’s plans
According to reports from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Real Madrid forward Gonzalo García is on the verge of joining VfB Stuttgart in a deal worth around €22 million including add-ons, with a medical scheduled in Germany and only final formalities left to complete. The move would mark the first major step abroad for the 21-year-old Spaniard after his explosive rise at the Bernabéu.
Represented by Spanish agency Best of You Sports, García now looks set to swap Real Madrid’s stacked forward line for a central role in Stuttgart’s attack – a classic Bundesliga springboard move for a young talent.
At the time of writing, neither club has issued an official announcement, but the structure and value of the deal have already made noise across Spain and Germany.
Gonzalo García – Real Madrid’s late-blooming forward
From Villarreal to the Bernabéu
Gonzalo García Torres, born on 24 March 2004, came through Villarreal’s academy before Real Madrid moved to bring him into La Fábrica. Working his way up through the youth sides and Castilla, he was viewed as a technically sharp, left-footed forward who can play across the front line – drifting in from the right, attacking central spaces and linking play between the lines rather than as a classic No 9.
Real’s belief in him was underlined in 2025, when the club handed García a new long-term contract reportedly running to 2030 and attached a huge release clause – something they usually reserve for players they see as long-term pillars of the project.
Breakthrough on the world stage
García’s real coming-out party came at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup - scoring 4 goals in 6 games.. With injuries and rotations opening a door, he produced a string of mature performances, earning international attention as one of the breakout players of the tournament and drawing praise for his composure and end product on the big stage.
That run convinced many around the club that he had the quality to contribute to the senior squad, but it also put him firmly on the radar of ambitious European clubs willing to offer starting minutes and a central role.
Why Real Madrid are ready to sell now
On paper, selling a 21-year-old forward they just renewed – and who carries a huge buy-out clause – looks counter-intuitive. But there are several factors that help explain why Madrid are prepared to do a deal at around €22m.
A brutally crowded forward line
Real Madrid’s attacking depth is elite – and unforgiving. Between established stars and other blue-chip prospects, minutes for a young forward in García’s profile are fiercely contested. Any pathway to a guaranteed starting role in the short term looks narrow, even for a player the club rates very highly.
From Madrid’s point of view, a substantial fixed fee plus add-ons for a player they originally picked up for minimal cost represents a clean capital gain and provides flexibility for future squad moves. It is also likely that the club have protected themselves with typical modern clauses such as a buy-back option or percentage of a future sale, even if those details are not yet public.
Stuttgart’s persistence pays off
VfB Stuttgart’s interest in Gonzalo García is not new. German reports in early December already framed him as a priority target, while also noting that Real Madrid were initially reluctant to lose him.
That context makes the “done deal” updates significant – it suggests that Stuttgart did not walk away when told the move was complicated, instead returning with a package rich enough to change the conversation. From Madrid’s side, the chance for García to play regular Bundesliga football at a club known for developing and selling on forwards adds clear sporting logic to the transfer too.
Best of You Sports – the agency behind the move
Who are Best of You Sports?
Gonzalo García is represented by Best of You Sports, a Spain-based sports management company that has built a strong footprint in European football over the last decade. Officially registered as The Best Of You Sports S.A., the firm focuses on player representation, image management and career planning, with activity across several European leagues and in selected overseas markets.
Spanish corporate filings list Óscar Ribot as the CEO and Esteban Granero, ex-Real Madrid midfielder, is a Chief Strategy Officer, underlining the agency’s Madrid roots and professionalised corporate structure.
The agency also represents Casemiro, who is playing at Manchester United now.
A track record with top-level talent
Best of You Sports have long been associated with high-profile players and major clubs. Over the years, their client list and media presence have linked them to big names at La Liga giants and other European sides, helping them build a reputation as a boutique but highly connected operator in the elite game.
For García, that background matters. Negotiating a sizeable move from Real Madrid to the Bundesliga – at a moment when his value, potential and risk profile all have to be balanced carefully – is exactly the type of situation where experienced representation can tilt things in the player’s favour: ensuring a competitive salary and bonus structure and securing a clear sporting plan at Stuttgart, not just a financial deal. And, potentially, negotiating protective clauses in case Real or another super-club want to bring him back in the future.
In that sense, the Stuttgart transfer looks like a career-planning play as much as a simple sale – trading the glamour of Madrid for a platform where he can become a guaranteed starter in one of Europe’s most scouted leagues.
