Dupla Pique & Dominguez land major Madrid move

Dupla Pique & Dominguez client Marc Cucurella has completed his move from Chelsea to Real Madrid, with the Spanish club announcing the signing of the 27-year-old left-back.

The agreement is worth €60m in total: €55m fixed plus €5m in potential bonuses. Cucurella has signed a long-term deal with Real Madrid, with reports in England stating that his contract runs until June 2032.

For Dupla Pique & Dominguez, this is a major elite-market placement. The agency, led by Aleix Pique and Miquel Dominguez, now has a client moving from Chelsea to one of the biggest clubs in world football at peak age.

Madrid add a ready-made left-back

Real Madrid’s move is clear in sporting terms. Cucurella gives them a left-back who can play immediately, defend aggressively, press high, cover large spaces and also operate as a left wing-back when needed.

He is not a development signing. At 27, he arrives in his prime years, with Premier League, Champions League, LaLiga and Spain national-team experience already behind him.

Madrid had been linked with other left-back options, but Cucurella offers a more complete senior profile. He knows Spanish football, has played in England’s most intense environment and has become a regular part of Spain’s international setup.

Chelsea accept major fee

For Chelsea, the deal is significant because it returns a large fee for a player they signed from Brighton in 2022. Cucurella arrived at Stamford Bridge for around £60m after his breakout Premier League season, and his Chelsea spell had several phases: difficult first year, recovery, trophies, then a final season where the club became open to a sale if their valuation was met.

Chelsea’s decision also reflects squad planning. The club have Jorrel Hato ready to take on a bigger role at left-back, while Xabi Alonso’s arrival has created a new squad assessment cycle.

Receiving €55m fixed plus €5m in bonuses gives Chelsea a strong financial return and allows them to reshape other areas of the squad.

Cucurella’s latest season

Cucurella’s 2025/26 season showed why Madrid were willing to pay a premium for a defender already in his late twenties.

Public season records list him with 47 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, including 32 Premier League matches. He scored one goal and added two assists in the league, while also playing nine Champions League matches.

His full Chelsea record stands at around 160 appearances, nine goals and 13 assists. During that time, he won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, while also becoming a European champion with Spain in 2024.

That combination of club trophies, international status and Premier League experience made him a strong market opportunity for Madrid.

The agency angle

This is a major deal for Dupla Pique & Dominguez. Aleix Pique had previously spoken publicly about the player being happy at Chelsea, but the market changed once Real Madrid arrived with a serious proposal and Chelsea accepted the valuation.

The agency work here was about timing and positioning. Cucurella was not a cheap market opportunity, and Chelsea were not forced sellers. The deal required Madrid to move decisively, the player to accept the project and Chelsea to receive a package that matched their internal valuation.

For a player who came through Barcelona’s academy and built his senior reputation through Eibar, Getafe, Brighton and Chelsea, returning to Spain with Real Madrid is the biggest move of his career.

Madrid continue aggressive rebuild

Cucurella’s arrival adds another major name to Real Madrid’s summer rebuild. The club have already been active across several positions, and the left-back role was clearly viewed as an area where more experience was needed.

For FootballAgencies readers, this is another example of how major clubs are moving quickly for proven players rather than waiting for perfect future-market options. Madrid have paid a premium, but they get a Spain international at peak age, a player used to elite pressure and a full-back who can contribute immediately.

Chelsea lose an important senior defender, but they receive a strong fee. Cucurella gets his return to Spain. Madrid get the left-back they wanted.
