Chelsea trigger recall as Dortmund confirm immediate return
Chelsea have recalled centre-back Aaron Anselmino from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, with BVB confirming he is returning to Chelsea with immediate effect. Dortmund said Chelsea activated a clause to end the loan early, which had originally been set to run until the end of June 2026.
Who is Aaron Anselmino?
Anselmino is a 20-year-old Argentine centre-back (born 29.04.2005) who came through Boca Juniors’ pathway after early youth football in Argentina. Chelsea signed him in August 2024 on a long-term contract and initially left him on loan at Boca to continue his development, before sending him to Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan in August 2025. The player was emotional during his farewell with BVB teammate.
Anselmino played 10 games for BVB, scoring one goal. Dortmund wished him well for the future.
The recall comes during the January window as Chelsea assess their options in central defence and squad depth. The timing suggests they want Anselmino back in-house immediately rather than leaving him in Germany until the summer. Chelsea were also linked with Jeremy Jacquet's move, but it seems it could be secured for the summer transfer window.
Agency angle: ML Sports Agency
Anselmino is represented by ML Sports, a boutique agency with a small core roster, led by Diego Merino and Marcelo Lombilla. The agency positions itself around sports image management and player representation, combining on-pitch career handling with broader support.
They are associated with a former Real Madrid player and manager, Fernando Gago.
