Laporta: “Dro’s departure surprised me”

Barcelona president Joan Laporta publicly admitted he was caught off guard by the decision. Speaking about the move, Laporta said: “Dro’s departure surprised me… it has been an unpleasant situation.”
Laporta added that Barcelona believed they had a plan in place for the player’s future, but that the message later changed after communication from the player’s agent (Footalent SL), as reported on X by @ClubMitjanit.

Who is Dro Fernández?

Dro Fernández (full name Pedro Fernández Sarmiento) is an 18-year-old La Masia product born 12.01.2008 in Nigrán, Spain. He is primarily an attacking midfielder who can also play from the left side, and he has already made first-team appearances for Barcelona.

The agency behind him: Footalent SL

Dro is represented by Footalent SL (often listed as De la Peña & Sostres with Carles Puyol also being involved from its early beginnings), the boutique Barcelona-linked agency publicly associated with Carles Puyol, Iván de la Peña and Ramón Sostres. Their client list includes Barcelona first-team names like Gavi and Eric García, underlining the agency’s deep ties to the club’s ecosystem and elite academy pathway.

Why this transfer is creating noise

The tension here is not just the fee, it’s the feeling that Barcelona expected a different outcome. Laporta’s comments suggest there had been confidence around a future extension plan, then a late change of direction. From PSG’s perspective, this looks like another aggressive move to secure high-end youth talent early, with the player’s pathway and minutes presumably central to the decision.
